Highlands Medical Center Opens Urgent Care Centers

As Jackson County's only hospital, it is crucial that we meet the growing needs of our community. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by adding services and technologies that fit the healthcare needs of the community - and Highlands Medical Center is always seeking ways to do just that.

The community was in need of urgent care services, and most importantly after hours and weekend care. Urgent care is an option for patients whose Primary Care Physician may not be available and urgent care centers do not require an appointment. We recognized a need for these services, not only in Scottsboro, but also in the North Jackson area. With the addition of Dr. Laura Dyer, Family Medicine Physician to our staff, we are now offering expanded services through Scottsboro Urgent Care and North Jackson Urgent Care.

Dr. Dyer has worked in Urgent Care settings and is looking forward to working as the Medical Director for Highlands Occupational Medicine Center. She completed Medical School at UAB and completed her Residency at the University of South Alabama. She then completed a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from the University of California School of Medicine. "I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Highlands Medical Center," says Dr. Dyer. "Having lived in Huntsville for several years, I am familiar with Scottsboro, and look forward to getting to know the community and providing healthcare services here," says Dyer.

"We are elated to now say that we are moving toward opening two urgent care facilities in Jackson County," says Kim Bryant, CEO Highlands Medical Center. "It has been an ongoing effort and we feel Dr. Dyer is ideal for working in an urgent care setting, and she has the compassion and understanding it takes to provide quality healthcare to our community. We are very fortunate to have her on staff at Highlands," says Bryant.

With the addition of Dr. Dyer to our staff, occupational medicine services will soon be extended to the North Jackson area as well. "Industries and businesses in the northern portion of Jackson County had too far of a drive for their employees to really utilize all of our services at Highlands Occupational Medicine Center. With the addition of occupational medicine services in Stevenson, those businesses will now have occupational medicine services, minutes away," says Johnny McCrary, director Highlands Occupational Medicine Center.

Scottsboro Urgent Care will be located at 102 Micah Way Suite 1107, in the complex with Geno's. North Jackson Urgent Care will be located at 42950 US Hwy. 72, Stevenson, in Shop Rite complex. Both facilities will accept most insurance.
