Clerical

Department Assistant, Therapy Center

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department Assistant supports the assigned department by facilitating communication with patients, staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments. The Department Assistant directs incoming calls, scheduling and responds to patient calls. The Department Assistant provides comprehensive support to the department and coordinates various tasks to ensure smooth daily operations within the department.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Medical setting experience preferred

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
No certification is required.

Manager Patient Access

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager Patient Access integrates the department’s services with the hospital’s primary functions, develops/implements policies and procedures that guide or support service, assesses and improves department performance, and ensures orientation and continuing education of departmental staff. The Manager will oversee the delivery of services that facilitate (easy/seamless) patient access to Highlands Medical Center; avoid bad debt related to unauthorized hospitalizations or procedures, un-sponsored care or incorrect patient payer or demographic data, and enhance patient/family and physician/provider satisfaction with the Registration Services department.

Patient Access Representative

POSITION SUMMARY:
Arranges for the efficient and orderly registration of patients, insures that accurate patient information is collected, Insurance is verified, and that patients are aware of pertinent hospital policies and procedures and financial responsibility.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some typing skills and CRT experience preferred; experience meeting the public desirable.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
No certification is required.

Patient Biller

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reports to the Business Office Manager. Reviews patient account claims throught the billing editor; ensures their accuracy and completeness; determines appropriate billing distributions, corrects and refiles rejected claims; receives and answers billing-related inquiries; and assists in the preparation of billing reports.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must have experience in use of CRT, calculator, and typing skills. One or more years of experience in insurance billing in hospital or related field desired.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Physician Services Representative

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the coding and billing of multi-office specialties. Reviews account work lists and follow-up documents, and obtains other information on current accounts, including any special circumstances for physician services. Contacts patients and/or third-party payer organizations to secure payments or arrange alternative settlement plans; identifies problem delinquencies and recommends their disposition; prepares and maintains collection-related records. Reviews and processes credit balance accounts for refunds. Reviews and responds to patient accounts correspondence on a timely basis.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in use of CRT, calculator, and typewriter (at least 25 words per minute). One or more years experience in insurance billing and/or collections in hospital or related field are desired.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Coding certification is preferred, not required.

Clinical

Laboratory Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, performs a wide variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and procedures with related duties to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease while following established standards and practices. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Requires an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate with an associate’s degree in any related science.  Prior experience in laboratory procedures is a hospital environment is desirable but not necessary.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a nationally accredited organization, preferred.

Laboratory Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, performs a wide variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and procedures with related duties to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease while following established standards and practices.  Serves as advanced level laboratory workers. Responsible for basic supervision of day to day operation of section assigned.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate with an associate’s degree in any related science.  Prior experience in laboratory procedures is a hospital environment is desirable but not necessary.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Medical Technologist or a Medical Laboratory Scientist from a nationally accredited organization, preferred.

Patient Care Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care, and assist in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN (or faculty staff representative) in charge of the team and/or unit. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; satisfactory completion of in-house nursing assistant certification course is generally performed (mandatory in some situations.)

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Registered Nurse (Case Management)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Determine the medical necessity of all admissions and the need for continued stay. Monitor for inappropriate or untimely clinical services and patient’s progress on the established clinical paths. Develop an appropriate discharge plan for those patients identified as likely to require some form of continuing care. Consults with the Physician Advisor; addresses documentation issues to assure continuity of quality care rendered to all patients and to meet all Regulatory Agency Requirements.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Requires licensed RN in the State of Alabama with two years clinical experience. Experience with utilization review, discharge planning, and/or home health care, preferred. 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with Alabama Board of Nursing as a RN.

Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting with a special emphasis on care of critically ill patients.  Occasionally may be assigned ER Charge Nurse Responsibilities.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an approved RN nursing program.                                  

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse.  ACLS, and PALS, as well as certification in BLS and CPR.

Registered Nurse (Intensive Care Unit)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting. There is a special emphasis on the care of critically ill patients.

Graduate of an approved RN nursing program.

Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. ACLS certification preferred.

Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting with a special emphasis on the care of obstetrical/neonatal patients.

Registered Nurse (Med-Surg)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Registered Nurse (Perioperative Trainee)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Full-Time student of a specialized internal training program.

Perioperative RN Trainee participates in the 6-month formal education program developed by AORN to train RNs to practice in the role of a surgery circulator in the Operating Room (OR). The Perioperative or Surgery RN Program prepares students to identify patient needs and prioritize care through the surgical experience utilizing assessment skills. In the role, the Perioperative RN plans and delegates care based on the identified patient needs. The Perioperative RN executes therapeutic physician orders and nursing interventions. The Perioperative RN evaluates the patient's response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The Perioperative RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift.

Note that this position requires constant walking & standing with twisting, bending, and lifting. There is the possibility of carrying, pushing & pulling 20 to 50lbs.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of Accredited School Of Nursing, with current Alabama Licensure. 

Experience preferred, new graduate accepted. For Huntsville Health System, no written warnings/suspension within the year.

Registered Nurse (Outpatient)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Registered Nurse (Surgical Services)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides circulating and/or scrub nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, following established standards and practices.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing A.D.N. or B.S.N. 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. Current CPR, PALS and ACLS or willing to obtain during the initial orientation period of employment.

Supervisor Administrative

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Administrative Supervisor is accountable for the overall functioning of the organization on evenings, nights, and weekends. Primarily responsible for responding to hospital administrative concerns and implementing hospital policy. Holds oversight for inpatient units staffing and allocation of staff to meet workload demands. Assists in placement of float staff in general medical or critical divisions. The Administrative Supervisor collaborates with the Directors and Nurse Managers on operational issues.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Recent hospital RN experience in which an advanced level of leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills has been demonstrated. Previous management experience preferred. Knowledge of overall hospital policies

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure from the State of Alabama Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse.  ACLS and PALS certifications required. 

Surgical Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of scrub technician training course strongly preferred. Minimum of one (1) year on-the-job experience preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Telemetry Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Telemetry technicians are responsible to independently observe and interpret cardiac rhythms and documenting them in patient record. Other responsibilities include coordinating availability of transmitters, lead cables, and other monitoring supplies.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of a basic EKG course and identification of cardiac rhythm examination. MOAB required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:
The Employee is eligible for the perioperative nursing educational program, once accepted into the educational program by the Instructor at Corporate University at Huntsville Hospital, subject to the limitations set forth herein.  The Employee must be a Registered Nurse and be a full-time employee during the educational program at Huntsville Hospital to receive this benefit.

Clinical Dietitian

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing clinical nutrition services, including nutrition assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training and nutrition intervention to patients/residents. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s or higher degree granted by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or an equivalent foreign degree) with completion of the academic requirements of a program in nutrition or dietetics accredited by an appropriate national accreditation organization recognized for this purpose. He/she must have completed at least 900 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of a registered dietitian or nutrition professional.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must be licensed by the State of Alabama in accordance with the provisions as contained in current state statutes as governed by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietitic/Nutrition Practice.

Support Services

Central Sterile Tech

POSITION SUMMARY:
Directs proper care and storage of sterile supplies and rental equipment used for patient care.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. CRT familiarity preferred.  Knowledge of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization techniques. Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly.                             

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification in Central Sterile preferred.

Enviromental Services Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reports to the Director and Supervisor of Environmental Services with functional accountability to nursing supervision for patient rooms.   Cleans and maintains an assigned area of the hospital/nursing home in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Previous direct related experience preferred.  Must demonstrate correct use of chemicals, supplies and tools prior to completion of orientation period.                                  

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

HVAC Senior Mechanic

POSITION SUMMARY:
Inspect, report malfunctions, and make repairs to HVAC equipment and related systems.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
HS/GED preferred. Technical training in preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment and related systems required. Six years experience or comparable combination of education and experience in HVAC maintenance required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
